Here’s a list of the most common struggles WAHMs (Work at Home Moms) face and how to overcome them.
The truth is – sitting at home alone all day causes loneliness.
When you work at home, you’re simply juggling your time between work and kids. And when you’re free, all you want to do is lie down and rest!
How to beat isolation
Share with other work-at-home moms through videos, Tailwind Tribes, or other social media channels.
If you have people in the house, talk to them from time to time.
Focus on what you’re doing and embrace work-from-home.
Sometimes you wake up with a good plan, and everything is going well. But that isn’t common when you are a work-at-home mom. You may encounter some difficulties while trying to avoid distractions.
Here is why.
- You have kids running up and down.
- The TV is on in the background.
- Personal social media.
Still, you can get past it.
- If possible, work from another room and close the door so you don’t hear too much noise.
- Give your kids something to do. This will help them stay quiet and give you time to work.
- Plan during nap time – some things, like making a phone call, can be nearly impossible. Especially if you have young children, try to make phone calls when they are sleeping. This will create a quiet, relaxed, and focused time to communicate with your clients.
3. Late hours
This is typical for all work-at-home moms.
When others are chilling and maybe enjoying a movie, this isn’t the case for work-at-home moms.
After spending time with our families and the kids are asleep, we race to our desks to check where we have been. For example, that photo was taken at night when I was rushing to log in and finish up a blog post.
Not staying up late is hard to control because all you want is to get your tasks done within a specific time frame. Also, chase your dreams.
But try to make realistic plans, so you don’t overwhelm yourself.
If you’re a mommy blogger, you’ll be lying to yourself if you try to post an article every day. Keep a balance and set goals that you can achieve. That way, you can work on them when you have time without stressing yourself out.
Work at home moms are trying to balance the job they want to do and the mom they think they are.
Most of the time, we feel guilty for leaving our kids alone, not doing self-care, and many other things. It will help if you let go of the guilt.
How do you do that?
- Embrace your choices
- Forgive yourself for what you think you did wrong.
- Be yourself.
- Don’t compare yourself to others.
Multitasking is part of being a working mom. Try to master multitasking without a fight;
- Plan well
- Have a routine.
- Give yourself breaks to refresh yourself.
6. No movement
When you work from home, you spend most of your time staring at your desk without moving. This isn’t healthy at all.
We all know that our body needs some stretching now and then to stay fit and function well.
To achieve this while working at home, practice the following.
- Take a few breaks and join in your child’s activities.
- Take a short walk outside.
- Sacrifice five minutes after 2-3 hours and get some exercise.
7. Temptation to quit
Sometimes you may feel like you can’t take it anymore. I bet every mom when she first started working from home had this thought at some point.
In those moments, use that negative thought to motivate you. See yourself as a strong woman who wasn’t afraid to start and therefore can keep going.
8. Working on pajamas
Every working mom has found herself working in her pajamas. It may take a while to notice, but I can tell you that the dress code can have a significant impact on how you see yourself.
For example, take a small task and dress as if you were in an office. You’ll create a work atmosphere and motivate yourself as a result.
Pajamas will give you the relaxed feeling that you are less interested or lazy when you work from home.
Go ahead and try to change your dress code and improve your home office’s hygiene to increase your competence and performance.
9. Unable to take charge or control your life
As a work-at-home mom, I can attest that sometimes we get all focused on work and forget that we have a life.
As much as you want to build a career, don’t forget about yourself and your life in general.
Schedule certain hours for work and others for what any normal person does. That is, create time for your partner, children, and friends.
