How to get yourself a perfect manicure at home
There’s no doubt that a beautiful manicure can’t be missed if we want to look good. Everyone desires to feel elegant. Even though that’s the case, it might not be possible for all of us due to various reasons. But, dear manicure fans, relax because there’s always an alternative to everything! In this case, a perfect manicure at home.
You may think that I’m talking about from home due to the quarantine lifestyle we all try to adapt to, but I’ve done this before. The reason being, it helps save time and money to get to a salon for manicures.
So, for you to practice a nice manicure at home, it would be good to have the following tools.
- Nail-polish remover
- Nail clippers
- Nail file
- A cuticle nipper
- Nail polish
I suppose it’s possible to do a manicure without all these tools, but on the other hand, to have a neat and clean result, it’s worth using them.
Now that we all know what's needed, let's move on to getting a perfect manicure at home. Step by step guide:
1. Remove old polish
To get a clean and even manicure, you first need to remove the old polish from your nails.
All you need is a remover and a piece of cotton or cloth. Some put some polish remover in the cap and dip a strip in it, but I rarely use that. I drizzle some on my nail and immediately wipe it off with a piece of cotton. After I’m done, I relax for about 2-3 minutes and give my nails time to dry completely from the remover.
Shorten your nails before filing them with a nail cutter. That is, if necessary.
After that comes the fun part, filing your nails. I enjoy this part because you get to see how creative you can be. Innovative in terms of choosing the shape you love. I have always opted for an oval or square nail shape, but that doesn’t mean you can’t choose a unique shape.
3. Soak your nails
Place your hands in a bowl of warm water and add some soap. I usually use my regular hand soap, but you can also use shampoo or any other type of cleaning soap you may have. Please be careful not to overdo it as it can weaken your nails.
4. Remove the thickened skin around the nails
After dipping your hands in warm water, the skin around the nail will soften and be easily and painlessly cared for. This is the time to use a cuticle remover. It will remove the dead tissue around your nail, leaving it soft and comfortable to work with. This is a measure worth performing to have a perfect manicure at home.
5. Apply moisturizer
Why moisten? It’s just a trick to prevent the almost dry nail polish from smudging later. Not only that, but you can also treat yourself to a simple hand massage at this stage. Pretend you’re at a spa and treat yourself to a little treatment. After that, before you move on to the next step, make sure there’s no crap glitter on your nails. If there is, use some nail polish remover to make sure everything is in order.
Applying nail polish is pretty simple. Just follow these 3 necessary steps.
- Apply a base coat
- Use your color polish
- Finish with a topcoat
Tip: Applying the undercoat, use only a thin layer; load the brush with enough nail polish to cover the nail in one coat, and hold the hand steady while painting.
